End of Wk 5

This week was hectic like hell - but closed few tasks this week and was ready for the London trip for the weekend.

Played badminton on tuesday - was fun. Also played badminton on wednesday - I was too tired.

Thrusday went in anticipation of long weekend.

Friday, till afternoon had not planned for the London trip but some how it came good by 4pm.

The trip was good, liked the Launchpad section of the Science Museum.

Now, closing for the day on Monday - still got few tasks left to finish from the work.. eeeeeeeeeeeekk...

But ya..13-5 = 8 more week...to be back in Hyd!!!

Tomato ki Dal & Bhendi ki Sabji - 25Apr2011!

Wow! It was turned out to be very good dinner!

Ate a lot because the dal & rice was so tasty! + I had made near perfect bhendi ki sabji.
So, I think now I know how to make bhendi - previous two attempts were not that good. But this turned out ot be the one I like.
Also, Dal.. I make it very rarely - I am thinking of increasing the frequency of cooking dal.

Sunday - Delight! - Egg Curry

17Apr2011:
Lunch was a near disaster - tried to make Bhendi..it didnot turn out that good. I think the bhendi was not that fresh. Lessons learnt - get fresh bhendi.
Had the Alu tikka curry from Friday - but that was really a disater - why did I put carrot in that!!!
This one would have been if I would have made Paneer tikka. This sheerwoods brand is ok ok - but some how it is not exciting me.

Regardless.. all is well that ends well. .had an excellent Egg Curry for dinner.. super tast.. 3 rotis and tummy full rice - wonderful...like it!!!
  Recipe for me to remember:
                1 big onion finely chopped,
3 medum sized tamatar finely chopped,
                3 chilli small size.
                2 table spoon of coriander
                1/2 table spoon of  turmaric
                1 table spoon of Oil
                3 pinches of Jeera
5 eggs - boilled / then fried in oil.
   Thats it!!!

Week 4 end

Its Sunday April 17th and end of week 4 of the UK trip.
This week was quite busy with work pouring from all the EPS department. In the end enjoyed the learning that came with it. I am more determined not to be that busy in the coming weeks but it would be a tough challenge.

Played Badminton on Tuesday in Leasure Center - did played one singles - lost to Brian Lom - 21-19. But rest of the games were good.

Played Football in the Arena with TRW collegues - I am always afraid to pay football simply because I am not that good at it. Still I manged to sneak in a goal......!

Food wise it was horrible! - Could not eat properly on Thrusday and Friday - too much work !!!

Movies watched:
Kick Ass - not so good.
  Expendables - good one.

Badminton Training / Coaching

I have been playing badminton for quite a while now - almost  years now. But not professionally - just some games with the friends. However, Satish, Sanket and I started with badminton training on 5th of Aug 2010.

We plan to get coaching on 2 days Thursdays and Tuesdays of the week.
Coach Gowerdhan.

Day 1: 5th Aug 2010 Thrusday.
We did 1 drill for 1/2 hr all three of us - alternately.
Drill: Coach threw the shuttle to
           1: Front right corner
           2: Back right
           3: Front left
           4: Back left
Each player was given some 20-25 shuttle hits/misses

Day 2: 9th Aug 2010 Monday
Coach had a mood for training so we went for it.
We did 2 drills - many joined looking at us.
           Drill: 1
Hit the shuttle from close to the net - just tap it down
Stand before the serve line and hit the shuttles. From left to right and then to left.
           Drill: 2
Hit a parallel shuttle from mid left
Hit a shot/smash from back left corner
Hit a parallel from mid right
Hit a shot/smash from back right

Focus was to improve doubles game. Were intention was to keep the shuttle low to the net and not allow the opponent to get a chance to hit smash.

Day 3: 12th Aug 2010 Thrusday

Coach was in some meeting so we started doing some practice ourselves.
We were trying to move to the net using shuffle step.
Looking at us practice P Manoj Kumar - first international player from AP offered to give us some hints.
He currently has some knee injury. + we didnot know who he was or what his caliber was.
But we thought we are new to the game and started taking advice.
By the end of it I was wondering about the amazing skills of this guy.

He was performing all the tricks I saw on the youtube videos, and that too with perfection.
         It was a nice session.
         He provided following coaching:
         1: Front shuffle steps
2: advised us to do tossing from back corner to back corner at the start that will give stability and power.
3: Highlighted the importance of keeping the shuttle behind the player all the time.
4: Showed us how to hit a backhand shot easily. Idea is to use your thumb to get the power. Shuttle also needs to be hit at correct timing. How to improve: do lot of wall practice.
5: Entire gamut of trick shots..

excellent shots of Lin dan vs Peter gade

Badminton Shots - all types listed

This is an attempt to consolidate all the technical shots available in the badminton.

Forehand Drop:

Forehand Drop Deceptive:
Here the idea is to drop the shuttle close to the net from the baseline. Since the line of attack is different to the place where the shuttle lands it becomes deceptive and steals a fraction of a second from your opponent and also makes the opponent wrong footed.

Force while moving

A thought occurred to me that there must be some force acting on moving bodies.

For example:

    1) How can one easily balance a two wheeler when moving, while it  is difficult to balance while it is not moving?
    2)  If we generate enough velocity we can fly...where are a steady object cannot float in air.
People talk of Bernoulli principle for flights. However, how can one think that air wants to or needs to travel faster to reach other end?

Now, we know that there is a centrifugal force corresponding to angular velocity. However, how can we not imagine that there is a similar force for straight line motion?

However this is just a thought....need to work more on this

Movie Review - 3 idiots - Became a Amir Fan after the movie

In today's world when Super Stars and Mega Stars are busy making or acting in nonsense masala films, Aamir is definitely traveling on a different track.
If you think it is difficult to surpass "taare zameen par", you must watch "3 idiots" you will be proved wrong. This movie has got all the flavors to make your 3 hours well spent.

This movie conveys a very important and vital message to all the parents, students as well as to the teachers. However, even for a moment you will not feel bored. The movie has got loads of funny scenes, super drama, heart touching emotions and fantastic acting by all the characters.
There are lot of moments where you will get tears in your eyes either by laughing or by well placed emotional scenes. Once scene which is worth mention is the scene when Mr. Chatur delivers welcome speech. Believe me entire theater was bursting with laughter, one I never saw before. Before the end of scene we all we crying - because of too much laughter.
I think I will rate this movie as the best movie I have every seen. Too good.

Before watching the movie I was wondering if oldies like Aamir & Madavan would suite into the cast of student. However, all 3 idiots made me wish I could go back to college. Boman Irani was suberb as usual. Kareena again gave very good performance.

I am still amazed how nicely the movie is made ---
I would give a rating of- 5 stars for this movie - fantastic

Gyan! - Why to use local variable when dealing with pointers

It is always a good practice to transfer the contents of the resolved pointer into a local variable. This avoids repeated access to the memory. Think in terms of assembly.

Indian Navy vs The Pirates of Somalia

Propelled by the economic development India as a nation is making an effort towards global patrolling and policing. In this regard the recent achievements by Indian Navy have been commendable.

The recent hijack of a Saudi supertanker seized by pirates with a $100 million oil cargo in the world's biggest ship has gained global attention. Somalian Pirates are now regarded as very powerful and intelligent. "It is the act of some very bright Somalis. Anyone who describes them as a bunch of camel herders needs to think again," one Somalia analyst said.

Indian Navy has been successful in two encounters with pirates
1) earlier this month (11th Nov 08) prevented two hijacking attempts "Indian Navy ship INS Gomti foiled attempts by Somali pirates off the Gulf of Aden to hijack the Indian merchant ship, Jag Arnav".
2) Just after a week (19th Nov 08) there are reports of Indian Navy destroying a Somalian pirate ship after it was under attack from pirates.
    (source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7736885.stm)

The INS Tabar, a naval warship, has been patrolling the Gulf of Aden since 23 October, and has escorted 35 ships safely during the "pirate-infested waters", the statement said.

INS Tabar was deployed to escort Indian ships after the country's shipping firms said they were losing $450,000 a month on cost overruns and delays in meeting deadlines.

This is a good signal from India that it is not just growing economically, but also in terms of securing its vicinity.

Details about INS Tabar (F44)

Badminton - Gopichand's Institute

Now is the time for badminton...
to begin with I am a decent badminton player and looking ways to further improve my game :)

I usually practice in my office, where there are not many serious players around and most of them come for fun. Cannot blame them. Then I go to a place near my house, but only on weekends that too for only an hour and usually play 5-6 singles games and then back.

However I thought that I should have some professional coaching. So, I & my colleague went to Gopichand institute to check if we can find someone to train us on badminton. (That is a funny thought however, what will I do learning badminton at age of 28? Anyways...) To start with, I was apprehensive to visit there, as some one might not even allow us inside. (we might look uncles!). But still we reached there and went inside.

There were many guys practicing and practicing hard. Almost all were doing 2 - 1 drill, that is 2 guys were feeding a single guy and they changed places. In the end we found out that all were national level players. There was only one coach teaching them all. We tried to reach him however, someone asked us then why we were there.

Upon asking about the coaching, there was a cold response and the guy gave me some coach's number and asked to check with him he said playing timings were 11 to ..? and 7pm to 10pm. Charges were Rs200 per hour. But, then we need to get our own shuttles & Rackets. Yes and even partners.

I was wondering if we could meet Gopichand & he would be teaching there! I was dissapointed. However, I though I saw Guru Sai Dutt there, the guy who did well recently in Junior World Cup Championship in Pune 2008. So that was it. We came back.

In the back of my mind, I am still thinking that I will not call that coach, but get tips online. So started looking for some materials.

Some Chinese promo video - but good tips - images do good.
